  • Mark electronically or highlight the text when reading.

  • Pause periodically to summarize or paraphrase what was just studied.

  • Look for connections between what is being studied at the moment and what was studied in the past.

  • Write down questions to ask the instructor.

  • Take breaks periodically to keep from getting too tired.

 

Explaining the materials in order to learn them

 

  • Discuss the course content in the online group discussion forum.

  • Answer questions in the online group discussion forum.

  • Share course materials and receive feedback from online group.

  • Collaborate with classmates in virtual teams.

Meaning and memorable studying

 

  • Make up own examples for concepts being learned.

  • Put things into own words.

  • Look for practical applications in real-life settings for the things being learned.

Self-monitoring

 

  • Make sure to answer own questions during studying.

  • Work with another student to question each other’s ideas.

  • Have a range of strategies for learning; if one isn’t working, try another one.
